Microsoft reported that its revenue for the third calendar quarter of 2026 rose 19% to $92.3 billion.
But the surprise came in a regulatory filingWednesday when it announced it had generated $10 billion from its commercial arrangements with OpenAI, including revenue-sharing payments, in the quarter ended Sept. 30.
This division rose 25% to generate $76.8 billion in total revenue for the quarter. It consolidates Azure alongside enterprise server licensing, frontier support, and commercial cloud suites like Microsoft 365.
The revenue -- which represents nearly 11% of Microsoft’s total quarterly revenue -- highlights the financial ties between the two companies, even as they increasingly compete for the same customers.
This revenue comes mainly from OpenAI's cloud infrastructure fees paid to Microsoft for computing power, alongside revenue-sharing agreements from their partnership.
While $10 billion was recorded on the income statement, OpenAI did not actually give $10 billion in physical cash during those three months.
